Attorneys Ben and Elizabeth Daniel of Daniel Law Firm have once more made it possible for over 200 inner-city children to enjoy a seven-week long summer camp filled with education and fun.
For five years, Daniel Law Firm has partnered with Memphis Parks and Neighborhoods. The organization offers a Summer Day Camp for kids ages 5 to 15 at its community centers throughout the city.
“The Division of Parks and Neighborhoods is especially grateful to the Daniel Law Firm for their unwavering commitment to the children in our community. Daniel Law Firm has provided ‘Worry Free Summer Camp’ scholarships over the past five years at an approximate cost of $12,000, assuring our parents a safe and fun environment during the summer months for our kids. We are truly grateful for this invaluable resource and partnership,” said Janet Hooks, director of Memphis Parks and Neighborhoods.
“We looked for a way five years ago to give back to the people who’ve been so nice to us,” said Ben Daniel. “We looked at several options, and there was nothing better than to help out kids that needed summer camp.”
The kids attended camp each weekday for seven weeks from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The campers spent their summer days making friends, stretching their creativity, and engaging in educational activities. They also got a healthy lunch and snack each day, provided by the Memphis City Schools.
The Daniel Law Firm sponsored the first 50 campers, then recruited adopters such as BankTennessee and ProTech Talent and Technology to sponsor an additional 150 campers. With help from these friends and business associates, this summer’s camp was once again a complete success. “Putting them in a safe place and giving them something educational and allowing parents to go to work and know that their kids are safe, it’s just sort of a win-win,” said Elizabeth Daniel.
The last week of camp, the Daniels visited the Ed Rice Community Center and presented a check for $11,980.00 to pay for this year’s activities. Mayor A C Wharton made an appearance at the center to talk to the children and accept the donation. At the end of the presentation, Wharton personally wrote a $20 check to round the total amount to $12,000.
Camp is an ideal way for any child to spend the summer and a great way to offer support to needy families in our community. For information on adopting a camper for the 2014 Worry Free Summer Camp, contact Elizabeth Daniel at Elizabeth@daniellawfirm.com or call (901) 295-0100.
